Banff National Park is over 6000 sq km of some of the most wondrous mountain scenery anywhere on the planet. Canada’s oldest national park is also it’s most popular, and with good reason.

Conveniently located only an hour or so from Calgary, Banff NP attracts over 3 million visitors every year. While this can make it busy sometimes, if you travel out of school holidays or get out early in the mornings you can still find tranquil spots and empty hiking trails around the park. You can spend your days hiking up to waterfalls, spotting the abundant wildlife around the park then spending your evening soaking in the hot springs. Add to this some beautiful restaurants, picnic spots and camping grounds this is a true bucket list destination.

See our other posts from Banff which take a look at Lake Louise, Lake Moraine and the wonderful wildlife which calls this place home. We visited the park in August and stayed in Banff Town.
