Have you ever dreamed of staying for days on a tropical island. Trekking through lush rainforest to forgotten beaches. Sleeping in your hammock on the beach, watching the boats gently sailing by.
Welcome to Ilha Grande, Brazil.
The island is perhaps best known for Lopes Mendes beach. This beach has been voted in the worlds top 10 on more than one occasion, and for good reason. To get to the beach you can either trek through the island’s jungle centre or take a water taxi round the outside. We trekked and were so glad we did, it makes the swim at the end all the more rewarding.
The rest of your time on the island will most likely be relaxing, relaxing and a bit more relaxing.
For accommodation we recommend Pousada da Cachoeira, this place is set back up on the hill. The lodge is a collection of private chalets in a beautiful tropical garden. The chalets were spotless and came with their own hammock.
The highlight of our time on Ilha Grande came on our last night, sitting on the beach, watching the full moon rise over the hill in the centre of the island.
Next up was the coastal village of Paraty…
