Tarangire National Park in Northern Tanzania may not be as famous as the Serengeti and Ngorngoro, however this does not mean it isn’t worth a visit. In dry season July to October large heards of animals head to the river including an amazing amount of elephants. Tarangire is famous within Eastern Africa for it’s elephant numbers so if you are looking for a quieter spot to gain some amazing viewings of these majestic animals then definitely include it on your itinerary. However if time or budget is a major concern then we would recommend prioritising the iconic parks and spending more time & money getting the best out of the central Serengeti and Ngorongoro areas.
We visited the park in early October and had fantastic sightings of many animals. Including elephant, giraffe, warthog, waterbuck, buffalo, wildebeest, lion, jackal & many more, including more migratory birds than I could possibly remember. Our guide was Elima from Arunga Expeditions Safaris, based in Arusha. Elima was an excellent guide and Benjamin, the owner of Arunga, was amazing and is highly recommended.
