No words or photos can truly prepare you for your first encounter with a Mountain Gorilla. This activity is on so many Bucket Lists, and for good reason. It is an experience that will live with you for the rest of your life. Permits can be expensive and difficult to obtain, but it is worth every cent.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is located in South West Uganda. Sharing a border with Virunga National Park, it is home to over 300 of the approximately 700 Mountain Gorillas left in the wild, all of which are found in these mountains.
We travelled to Bwindi in September with Lake Basin Tours & Travel, as part of a custom itinerary which took in the Gorillas, the chimps in Kibale and the Queen Elizabeth National Park. We would highly recommend Lake Basin if you are looking for a local operator to provide you with a custom itinerary. In Bwindi we stayed at Silverback Lodge which was also good.
As we say above the pictures below really can’t come close to capturing the magic of this place and the feeling you get when you look into the eyes of these amazing animals. Look out for our videos to come.
