If swimming with penguins is on your Bucket List then make sure you take a trip to Boulders Beach, just outside Cape Town. The ancient boulders which give the beach its name make for picture postcard views and the colony of African penguins who call this place home bring in tourists from all over the world. Aim to visit in summer so you can enjoy the beach as well, otherwise the changeable Cape Town climate may make your day a little less relaxing.
Boulders beach is easily accessible from Cape Town either by car or, if you are a little more adventurous, by train in what must be one of the most scenic train journeys anywhere in the world. You can also stay in Simon’s Town, which is a really lovely spot and we would definitely recommend this.
